DANCE SKILLS FOR FUNNY PEOPLE: Workshops for Theater, Improv, and Sketch Teams
1 - 3 hours
A high-energy crash course in creating original comedic dances, using improv, sketch writing, and a whole lot of teamwork. Designed for college-level dancers and actors and movement-lovers of all levels, this workshop goes beyond silly walks (though we love those, too). You’ll generate big, bold ideas through ridiculous games, wild movement prompts, and sketch brainstorming sessions that turn “what if” into “oh no, we’re actually doing this.” Students will: -Play fast-paced physical and theatrical improv games -Collaboratively develop sketch premises and characters -Choreograph and refine comedic dance moments as a group -Learn tools and frameworks to create original work beyond the workshop -Leave with a notebook full of ideas, a toolkit of creation strategies, and a stronger sense of how to make your audience laugh with your whole body
FIND YOUR FUNNY: Workshops for Schools
Elementary School Workshops
45 - 60 minutes
It is time to laugh, dance, and let your imagination run wild! This interactive workshop introduces students to the exciting world of comedy through movement, storytelling, and creative play. Instead of focusing on perfect dance technique, students will discover how facial expressions, silly characters, teamwork, and big physical choices can turn simple movements into hilarious performances. Through age-appropriate games, group activities, and creative challenges, every child has a chance to participate, build confidence, and express themselves in a supportive environment. By the end of the workshop, students will have created their own funny movement moments while learning that the best performances come from being creative, kind, and unafraid to have fun.
Middle Schools Workshops
1 - 2 hours
Middle school is the perfect time to explore creativity while building confidence, and this workshop does both through the unique blend of comedy and dance. Students will learn how body language, timing, rhythm, and exaggerated movement can tell stories and make audiences laugh without saying a word. They’ll experiment with improvisation, partner work, and collaborative choreography while discovering how movement can communicate emotion, character, and humor. Designed for all experience levels, this workshop encourages students to take creative risks, support one another, connect with an audience and celebrate individuality. Whether they’re natural performers or trying something new for the first time, students leave with stronger non verbal communication skills, increased confidence, and maybe a new love of comedy and dance.
High School Workshops
1 - 3 hours
What makes something funny? How can movement tell a story more effectively than words? In this energetic workshop, students explore the intersection of dance, physical theater, and improvisational comedy to create memorable performances. Participants learn professional techniques used by physical comedians and ensemble performers, including comedic timing, stage presence, movement dynamics, character development, and collaborative devising. Students work together to transform everyday situations into original comedic scenes through choreography and movement-based storytelling. Whether they come from dance, theater, music, or no performing arts background at all, participants gain practical tools for creative collaboration, stronger stage confidence, and more expressive performance skills. The workshop emphasizes that great comedy isn’t about making fun of others. It’s about committing to bold choices, supporting your ensemble, and finding joy in the unexpected.
